Nurse Aide Program

大学 of The Albemarle’s (COA) Nurse Aide program is offered by the Workforce Development and Career Readiness (WDCR) department. Our curriculum will prepare you to work under the supervision of licensed nursing professionals in performing nursing care and services for persons of all ages. Course topics include:

  • Personal care
  • Vital signs
  • Communication

  • Therapeutic activities
  • Accident and fire safety
  • Household environment and equipment

Nurse Aide I

This 160–hour course introduces basic nursing skills required to provide personal care for patients, residents or clients in a healthcare setting. Class, laboratory and clinical experiences are included. Course topics include:

  • Communication

  • Vital signs
  • 消除

  • Rehabilitation
  • Mental health

Upon successful completion of the course, you’ll be eligible to sit for the competency exam through PearsonVue for listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry.

Prerequisites

  1. You must have a high school diploma/GED or successfully complete a reading placement test score or college-level English with a 10th-grade reading level, or CASAS score of “244 – 248” (maximum of two tests, at least seven days apart, within 90 days, then recommend remediation prior to testing again for a third try)
  2. Attend the Nurse Aide mandatory orientation.

Nurse Aide II

The Nurse Aide II course prepares graduates to perform more complex skills for patients or residents. A skill evaluation is required for documenting student competency. The 176–hour course includes class, laboratory and clinical learning experiences. Upon satisfactory completion of the course and competency evaluation, the graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide II by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Nurse Aide II has the same pre–requisites as Nurse Aide I, with the addition of producing a copy of your high school transcript or High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED). In addition, you must currently be listed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I registry.
